BRAIN IN-COM 2025
The inaugural Brain In-Com, intensive brain injury treatment program, for individuals with TBI is complete. UWEC CSD hosted 9 individuals with TBI, two partners, 3 grad students, 5 undergraduate students, and a social work intern.
Our students led sessions on co-design for training medical providers about TBI, created numerous videos, conducted daily mindfulness activities, narrative identity lab activities (identity mapping, dear John letters, visual metaphor timelines), brain anatomy and virtual Anatomage cadaver labs, music (including an amazing rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody), walking and recumbent biking, and fostered lots of camaraderie. It was an incredible week with amazing people and of course our students were phenomenal.
Special thanks to grad students Daniel Azarshin, Grace Allison, and Diana Cataldi; undergrads Jenna Nybroten, Anna Lindner, Kylie Starren, Brynna Streifel, and Taylor Eytcheson. Our social work intern Emily Casey. Audrey Nelson and Katie Paulson from the Brain Injury Association of Wisconsin. Our incredible videographer Rob Mattison. Thanks to Dunkin Donuts, Kwik Trip, Caribou Coffee, and special treats from Emily's grandma, Ginny, and Grace.
